A few weeks ago we wrote about how the new JURA C3 is an improvement on the existing ENA 4--now, we want to talk about another new launch that JURA has that has us comparing different machines. The newly released JURA C9 is a robust machine that you should consider alongside machines like the JURA E8. Both milk machines, in the end, it's a matter of which fits your lifestyle (and coffeemaking!) the best. Below, we take a look at the differences and similarities between the JURA E8 and JURA C9.

The specificities

A more budget machine, the C9 is listed at $2,095, and the E8 is listed starting at $2,895 (there are three E8 models, all listed at different prices). The E8 proves itself as a wonderful option for those who are wanting to have extra space in the hopper, water tank, and on the display screen, but the C9 is a more budget-friendly option for a superautomatic espresso machine. The C9 is especially impressive at this price considering it's an espresso machine with milk capabilities.

Great machinery, great quality

The efforts of the Professional Aroma Grinder (P.A.G.®) is enhanced through the JURA C9's full-size brewing unit, both included now in the JURA C3 and C9. The full-size brewing unit is something new to entry level machines, and provides a more powerful brewing experience for users at prices where it was not available previously. This, of course, elevates the C9 drink experience, and users can be assured that whether they choose a tall drink or a shorter one, the aroma and flavour that the C9 delivers will be top-notch either way.

On the E8, users are provided the experience of the P.A.G.2® grinder, which is an upgrade on the already great P.A.G.® machinery. With this grinder, you get a faster and quieter experience than with the P.A.G. iteration.

The E8 machine uses the Professional Fine Foam frother, which is designed to create high-quality microfoam and hot milk. The C9 also provides milk frothing capabilities through its integrated milk frother, which is designed for consistent foam. Concerning hot water bypass, the C9 doesn't include this feature, while the E8 does. This means there are no options for Americano or lungo drinks, hot water, or 1-step milk system cleaning on the C9.

A part of JURA's newer developments, the C9 includes Light and Hot Brew options, bringing another level of quality and customization to the JURA menu. These options are made available through both the full-size brewing unit and three separate brewing processes that the C9 uses. Light Brew allows users to use less ground coffee and a lower temperature, saving coffee and letting the user drink the coffee immediately after brewing.

On the outside

With similar dimensions, the JURA C9 and E8 are fit for similar spaces. In some ways, the machines are close in nature, but (as you read) they are fit for slightly different needs and budgets. On the outside, the 3.5" colour display of the E8 is slightly larger than the 2.8" colour display of the C9, but both of them use a button navigation system. The colour screens bring the menu options to life with vibrant images.

Available in two different colours (Piano Black and Piano Inox), the C9 is beautifully crafted to fit a modern kitchen, its sleek design a standout of the machine. It borrows design elements (i.e. the "wave" shape) from higher-end JURA machines, like the Z10. The current E8 (available in Chrome, Piano Black, and Piano White) goes with a different design, though both machines are made of high-quality, durable materials.

Different machines with different capacities

The JURA C9 provides users with a bean hopper capacity of 200 grams and a water tank that holds 1.6 litres at a time. You're paying for more capacity when it comes to the E8, where you get 280 grams of bean hopper space and 1.9 litres in the water tank.

Each machine provides 17 different drink options on its menu, the Light Brew options on the C9 creating a menu that is brand new to the JURA lineup.

Overall, the JURA E8 and JURA C9 are only similar in milk capabilities, button functionalities, and approximate size. Other than that, they are different machines built for different purposes and lifestyles. If you're looking for something more complete and luxurious, reach for the E8. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly milk-frothing espresso machine that is still superautomatic and delivers premium coffee, opt for the C9.
